Today Don Alejandro Cirilo Perez Oxlaj, head of the National Mayan Council of Elders of Guatemala, Day Keeper of the Mayan Calendar, a 13th generation Quiche Mayan High Priest and a Grand Elder of the Continental Council of Elders and Spiritual Guides of the Americas was inaugurated in Guatemala City. His post is that of Ambassador of the Indigenous Pueblos of Guatemala. This represents the beginning of a worldwide function that Don Alejandro will perform: representing indigenous peoples worldwide which is his mission as the Elder who will guide us in the next cycle of the Mayan Calendar.
Why is that important? Two reasons. First, he is my primary spiritual guide in the Mayan tradition and I am proud that he is attaining a platform for his spiritual guidance to many more people. Second, his message is based in his close and personal attunement to the Mayan Calendar and what is coming in the future with respect to the consciousness of human beings. What he says will be based in those energies that are unfolding right now. And his message will be about time!
And perhaps the third reason is really more important. This represents a unity among the indigenous people of the North (the Eagle) Americas and the South (the Condor). I don't know about you, however when I hear wisdom from people who were here before me and who know how to listen to the wisdom of their elders it makes my skin shivver. This is the wisdom I came here to learn. And it is the wisdom I'm gaining on this path of attuning to a spiritual calendar with more focus than a material calendar. My body keeps appointments according to the Gregorian calendar, however my soul keeps appointments according to the natural rhythms of the Mayan Calendar.
